This is a story from a long time ago.
The story of a girl, mahjong, and one more girl.
Word has been out already that Ritz and Aguri liked working together enough to start another Saki-related project following the completion of Saki Achiga-hen, but so far we could only speculate on what the new serialization would contain.
Now the cat’s out of the bag – starting from 25th September, the Ritz x Aguri combo will start serializing a new story following the previous mahjong generation, most of whom we know as active pros appearing in the main story.
I am so looking forward to this. Already we have some new information regarding the power balance in the old Saki world, with Ms. Taciturn-pro showing up in a Shindouji uniform. Other things to look forward to:
- The Legend-Grandmaster-Hayarin-Taciturn square-off featured above – one match to determine the strength tiers of half the known pros
- Kokaji Sukoya during her ascent – the more we learned about her, the less we understood. Will the past bring us answers?
- Harue during her prime – what are the limits of the perfect analysis-type player against ability users?
- The ‘beloved by the tiles’ phenomenon – was it in full swing ten years ago, or is it something unique to the current generation?
- Middle school Kouko fangirling over her future sweetheart. Harue’s yuru-yuri clubroom past. Come on, it’s Saki.
- Hints regarding the master plot of the series – is somebody trying to fish out the supernatural players? If so, for what purpose?
Can’t wait till September!
Consider me booked on this. I read Saki and plan to complete Saki Achiga-hen in the next few weeks.
I simply cannot skip on this new one…:D
With how slow Ritz is at drawing the main story, I’m just glad we’re getting some interesting parts of the setting explored with the help of other artists. I’m a huge Kokaji fan, too, which helps :p.
Agreed, the main story is moving at an abnormally slow pace recently, especially for me who follows the story volume after volume. (I don’t look at the single chapters online)
Let’s see what they’ll be able to do with this new side-story I suppose! 😀
Not only is the base release speed half of your usual shounen series at twice monthly, but Ritz often misses chapters AND had an accident recently. There’s a lot working against us ever seeing the conclusion to the main story xD.
Oh, I haven’t heard about the accident. That was the reason for the long wait between two volumes…
Thankfully, it wasn’t anything that serious. But Ritz missed 1 or 2 chapters because of that.
so…cytrus you can play/like mahjong?seems to have a lot of thing related to mahjong here..
Yes, I mostly play on Tenhou, currently 4th dan. I’m often too attracted to pretty/rare yaku to play properly, but I try :P.
Reblogged this on Just my guilty pleasure reblog..
More professional lesbian mahjong wrestlers with superpowers is a-okay by me.
HYPPEE!!! 😀
Well, I have a question though…
Unlike another series, this one show one bamboo (bird) instead of one circle in its announcement…
Do you think it has any significance?
We do a have a generation change, and Aguri is the artist behind Bamboo Blade, so it might be fitting.
Oh, I love your blog entries about Saki! They get me thinking about so many things that I missed with the series that I’m probably overly-obsessed with XD
Anyway! I’m so pumped for this story! I love the Saki girls, but I’m always drawn to the adults in the series more, and Harue is my fave! Although this series won’t be portraying their adult lives (probably anyway), it’s still something that I’m greatly looking forward to fawning over.
So who do you think the ‘mystery’ girl is on the last page? I really agree with what you said about this story probably majorly tying into the mysteries of the main Saki series.
There have been additional images released since this update, and it seems that we might follow the story of the previous generation from the eyes of an entirely new school. We still don’t know what connection the new characters will have with our favorite pros, but the opening chapter should be coming out soon, so we’re about to find out!
